Gorgeous Microscopic Cinematography Reveals a Terrifying Universe
Clemens Wirth and Radium Audio collaborated on this experimental, visually stunning video. The footage is entirely live action, with no computer-generated elements. Wirth, a filmmaker based in Austria, has made a name for himself with his macro cinematography (see his Macro Kingdom series below), and explains, “I wanted to go deeper than the macro universe, so I found myself hanging on the eyepiece of a microscope. The real challenge was definitely the small depth of field in microscopy. It’s really fascinating how detailed this tiny world is, and unbelievable how much is going on in only one little water drop.” read more

Collider: Chillout Sessions
A homage to Frank Lloyd Wright and Neutra and the lifestyles their buildings accommodated, Chillout Sessions XII takes us to a fusion of time periods somewhere between the 50s and the 80s in the filtered light of California.
Both of the little worlds are part of the artwork created for the most recent Chillout Sessions: a compilation disc series put together by the Ministry of Sound Australia. The diorama-like concept was developed by Collider (design by Andrew van der Westhuyzen and cinematography by Brycen Horne).
Executed exceptionally well: from the world construction to the photography, this is a concept pulled off in every sense. Be sure to check out the video version of each: XII XI
Bartholomäus Traubeck: Years
If trees could play music, what would it sound like? That may seem like a silly question, but artist Bartholomäus Traubeck has found a way to answer it. The appropriately titled ‘Years’ project translates the rings of tree slices into piano music using a vintage turntable, a Playstation Eye Camera and a computer running the software ‘Ableton Live‘.
The effect, as you can hear in the video (click in the picture above), is surprisingly somber and haunting. The German-born artist, who divides his time between Rotterdam, Netherlands and Linz, Austria, explains that the music software reads the rings as they shift and change and translates that raw sound into a pre-selected musical sound – in this case, piano. read more
Raving Rabbids: Travel in Time
The Rabbids use a time machine (which looks like a washing machine) to go through different times to change the history of the World. According to the trailer, first they go to Prehistory and help a caveman discover fire, but end up giving him a lighter. Then they go to middle-aged Egypt to disturb work on the Sphinx and make the nose fall off. And last, they go to Medieval times but they end up underground holding down the legendary sword Excalibur when Arthur tries to pull it off the stone, but he gives up and leaves. When the Rabbids leave, Grannie ended up pulling the sword instead of Arthur. read more or watch the cute video on youtube
Kevin Dart: Danger is a Female
The amazing Kevin Dart has a new Yuki 7 book coming out titled “Looks That Kill.” To celebrate its release he has teamed up with animator Stephane Coedel to produce a trailer for the second hypothetical film in the Yuki 7 universe, and the result is even more impressive than their previous collaboration.
Mr. Dart has been influential in my development as a designer, and his ability to create a fully realized world with Yuki 7 is truly inspiring. Enjoy.
